SSBI extended until 30 April 2024

The Australian Government Extends School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) Nomination Period

The Australian Government has announced exciting news for families in need of reliable internet access. They are extending the nomination period for the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI), allowing more eligible families to benefit from this vital program. This initiative is aimed at bridging the digital divide and ensuring that students have access to the internet for their educational needs.

Nomination Deadline Extended

The latest update, posted on the Minister for Infrastructure's website, reveals that Nominating Organisations will now be able to nominate eligible families until April 30, 2024. This extension provides additional time for families to take advantage of this essential program.

12 Months of Free Broadband

Eligible families who are nominated for the SSBI will receive 12 months of free broadband from the date the service is activated. This initiative not only facilitates access to online learning but also eases the financial burden on families during these challenging times.

Possible Program Changes

With this extension, there may be other changes to the SSBI program, including potential adjustments to the participating internet service providers. These changes are designed to improve the program and provide better support to eligible families.

Stay Informed

Nbn, the company responsible for the national broadband network, will keep all stakeholders informed about any relevant changes as soon as possible. They will also ensure that materials on the Digital Asset Portal are updated promptly to reflect the latest information.

For organizations currently processing and issuing vouchers, it's crucial to continue doing so with the current deadline of September 30 for families to redeem their vouchers. As of August 18, 2023, vouchers generated from the portal or mail merge letters will now show the new deadline of April 30, 2024.
